Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled from my home town of Matara, Cajamarca, Peru, to Cajamarca's regional capital also named Cajamarca. The drive is around 45 minutes to an hour depending on who is driving. It's an easy drive, with winding roads down the mountain, but sometimes if you are driving too fast, you can get car sick.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have traveled all over Peru during my two years here, so the trip to Cajamarca is quite easy. I have been to seven regions in northern Peru. These regions include Cajamarca, la Libertad, Lima, Lambayeque, Piura, Ancash and Amazonas.

How did I get around this week?:

This week I got around by taking taxis, combis, and motos. A combi is a small van or minibus that people use for public transportation in Peru. It usually carries about 10 to 15 passengers and is one of the most common and affordable ways to travel between towns. When I go from Matará to Cajamarca, I take a combi and pay 10 soles for the trip. I also use motos, which are motorcycle taxis. They’re smaller and faster than regular taxis and are great for short trips around town.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was where I stayed with my friends over the weekend. Their place had an amazing view of Cajamarca.
