After arriving in Vigo, I have only gone to the center of the city and the university campus. The campus is located 6.2 miles away from my flat, and the city center is about 1.1 miles away. I have made several trips to both locations so I would estimate that I've traveled about 50 miles total.
My journey to Vigo began in Atlanta, Georgia. I took a flight to New York where I then took a train to New Jersey. From New Jersey, I flew to Lisbon, Portugal and from there to Madrid, Spain. I spent a night in Madrid and the next day I took a flight to Vigo. The total distance traveled was 5,100 miles.
Getting to New Jersey from New York, I had to get on a train. The New York City Subway is the first subway that I have ever been in. The subway made public announcements that advised travelers to keep their belongings close and to preorder tickets for each train. Hearing the warnings made me very cautious about asking for directions. I felt unsafe since I was all alone, but I met great people on the train that showed me the way. Also, I was nervous about missing my flight because I only had 5 hours to travel between the two cities. I found that Newark Liberty International Airport is well-connected to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
