An initiative by the Foro dos Recursos Mariños e da Acuicultura das Rías Galegas (Forum of Marine Resources and Aquaculture of Galician Rias) pushed the commercialization of limpets. Before the initiative, limpets were considered inedible, but the movement persuaded many to give it a seat at the dinner table. Given that the animal adds value to Spain's economy, the limpet is now being exploited. Limpets have been over hunted in some areas and the demand for limpets only increases.
