As my time in the Azores comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on this experience. When I first moved to the Azores this fall, I felt both excited and nervous. I didn’t know what to expect in a completely new country, speaking a new language. I wondered what it would be like to live and work here, and I worried about finding friends and feeling at home. But over time, this place did start to feel like home.

I had the chance to explore incredible places like Sete Cidades and Furnas. I went hiking, swimming and discovered so much of the island. One of the most meaningful parts of my experience was the people. I made friends at the university, went to local events and learned what everyday life is like here in Portugal. Watching football games together, celebrating traditions and simply spending time with others helped me feel connected in a place that once felt unfamiliar.

When I first arrived, I spoke very little Portuguese. Now, I can navigate most of my daily life in the language. This experience showed me how powerful language is. It opens doors, builds friendships and helps you truly understand people. It’s something I want to keep practicing even after I leave.

Overall, this experience pushed me to become more independent and adaptable.
