Have you seen any African culture in Italy or anywhere else?

Less than a 7-minute walk from where I am currently living in Catania, there is a small neighborhood that is home to a significant African population, including some new migrants and some who have called Catania home for a few generations. Walking through there brings back memories of living in West Africa, with mbalax music wafting out of speakers, people grilling food outdoors, hanging out drinking coffee or chatting and seeing street art representing Senegal and other countries. While there are a number of Italians that also pass through there to go to the shops or on their way somewhere else, most of the people in that neighborhood are from various African countries.

Is there any other place you would like to visit and conduct research?

I try to approach life with an endless curiosity and an acknowledgment that I know about a tiny fraction of anything that’s going on in the world. Pretty much any place can be interesting if we are asking the right questions.
