Hi students! My name is Rachel Brown. I am 22 years old and from the Philadelphia suburbs. I love to hike, bike, read, spend time with friends, listen to music, and travel. After I graduated high school, I moved to Washington D.C. to study international relations and economics. I wanted to learn how to reduce poverty around the world and create a more equal society.
During my sophomore year, I became involved with a start-up that aimed to launch a hydroponic farm in Cambodia to boost farmers' incomes. From there, I met researchers in the U.S. and locals in Cambodia who helped me carry out undergraduate research on the causes of higher income for farmers in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I loved learning about other peoples' lives, the challenges they face, potential opportunities they could access, and applying the economic analysis techniques that I had learned in my class to my own research project.
Currently, I am living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with a grant from the U.S. Fulbright program to study risk mitigation strategies for farmers in Cambodia. I can't wait to share my travels and experiences in Cambodia with you all, and I'm excited to talk to you soon!
