The animals in Ocaña are similar to the animals in Bucaramanga-you can see dogs and cats walking around. Ocaña also has people who have farms with livestock, but I did not get to see those farms on this trip.
On our last day visiting Ocaña, we drove up a huge mountain through back roads. It was very bumpy and full of rocks! But when we reached our destination, we were in a beautiful forest of pine trees on a cliff. I could not believe my eyes-it was like standing on the edge of the world! Below were trees and around us were mountains. It was getting dark so the sky was turning dark blue.
We explored a colonial church, and there were very beautiful flowers hanging alongside the wall. The church was white, so the colors stood out. In the distance, they looked like small beautiful polka dots.
In Ocaña, the main language is Spanish.
They use the Colombian peso.
A bottle of water is the same price as in Bucaramanga, about two thousand pesos or 66 U.S. cents.
Ocaña is known for its bread and arepas! The bread is a little sweet-it is made into rolls that are toasted a little on the outside and are very soft on the inside. My friend, Anita, and her mom made us some at her house. Arepas, if you have never tried them, are sort of like a pancake and a tortilla, but made as one. They are made from corn.
