To Be a Kid in Bucaramanga: Through the Eyes of Mariana and Valeria

Introduction:

Mariana and Valeria are two of my students at a K-12 school where I teach here in Bucaramanga. Mariana is in 11th grade, which means she is in her last year of school and will be graduating next month. Valeria is in 8th grade. I kept their words as they stated them because we were really excited that they did the interview in English (which is their second language!)

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast, we usually eat eggs with cheese and bread with jam. On some days, we eat pancakes with Nutella. If we are late for school, we usually make Kellogg's cereal with milk. Our lunch at school is different every day. On some days, it is pasta with meat or rice with some protein. We have it with juice; some days maracuyá juice, raspberry juice, grape juice, apple juice, pineapple juice, every day it is different. And we usually have fruit or a small salad from our salad bar, and a small treat for dessert. And for dinner, we eat arepas with cheese and jam or hot chocolate and a small sandwich.

What is your house like?:

We live in an apartment. It's not too big, but it's cozy and I like it. We have an incredible view, and it's on the 10th floor so there is a breeze. It gets cold at night for this reason so it's perfect to sleep in.
