Farewell

Don't forget to learn as you travel. While abroad, I learned to embrace cultural diversity, witnessing a rich culture, environment and traditions distinct from my own. The ability to appreciate cultural diversity is an important skill in today's interconnected world. It's also important to develop global awareness. Within the past year, in Mr. Cain's class, you had an introduction to the field of the social sciences. In this field, we dedicate ourselves to critically analyzing complex problems, taking into account cultural, historical, economic and political factors. Whether you're interested or not, global and local events affect you. By paying attention, you hone the transferrable skills that I wrote about before. Critical thinking and problem-solving are useful everywhere. By traveling abroad, you gain new perspectives that sharpen your insight.

Finally, remember to keep empowering positive change. Don't just be a taker. In high school, find that passion for creating a better world in whatever way you're best at. In Science Olympiad, try focusing on a problem affecting you that science has yet to change. In DECA, identify ways that entrepreneurs can address a critical social issue. Outside of traditional clubs, see what your local community has to offer you. Be resourceful in finding opportunities online and through who you know. By engaging with the world around you, you'll find personal satisfaction, as well as recognition from others for following your passion.

Thank you all for following me on this journey! I hope that you all enjoyed the articles as a complement to your semester. Enjoy your summer, and I wish you all the best.
