One of my absolute favorite things about living in Colombia is the lunches. Before coming here, I never would have guessed that the typical Colombian lunch would be so life-changing, but now it is quite literally one of my favorite parts of this entire experience. They even have a name for it: corrientazo.
Corrientazo always includes a bowl of soup to start, followed by a huge plate with rice, beans or lentils, salad, plantain, potatoes or yuca and a meat of your choice. It also comes with a fresh juice that is always delicious, and you actually get unlimited refills of juice. It is a lot of food, and it is meant to be a complete lunch rather than just something quick to eat.
The meal is not fancy, but it is always delicious. Plus, the price is unbeatable. A typical corrientazo ranges from 10,000 COP to 18,000 COP, which is roughly $3-6 USD. It is very affordable compared to U.S. prices!
