Traveler Bio

Marhaba! Welcome! My name is Reese Hollister, and I am a young historian from Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania, I learned how to skateboard, and it is my favorite hobby. Now, I live in Morocco, and I skateboard in the capital city of Rabat every day with my friends.

Morocco is a country in the Northwest of Africa. Because I study and research history, I need to be in Morocco to interview Moroccans about how they understand the past. I go to the archives and libraries every Friday to read old newspapers in French, English, and Arabic.

Being a historian is fun for me because I get to use my imagination while also looking for the real-life facts. Historians are like detectives: we use evidence to prove a new idea, prediction, or hypothesis. Historians are also teachers because we love to share what we discover. Because I became a historian, I have the opportunity to travel around the world, learn new languages, and meet people from diverse cultures.

I feel honored that I have the chance to meet with young students like you all. Hopefully, one day you will learn new languages and travel to a new country or even continent! In Arabic, we like to say “Alf Shukan,” which means “One Thousand Thank Yous!” I can not wait to answer any of your questions about traveling to a new country and researching history. I also love questions about skateboarding.
