Peanut Sauce!

When rice is prepared like this, it is called lontong. The tofu and egg are fried in oil and then the peanut sauce is made right in front of you! The seller grinds up peanuts, adds peppers to make it spicy and also adds palm sugar, which is similar to brown sugar. It is so delicious!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Rice is a necessity in Indonesian cooking. People around me are always saying that if they don't eat rice, then they didn't actually eat. While they laugh when they say it, I know that they're actually being serious. Most of my friends here eat rice three times a day; therefore, it makes sense that this popular dish has rice in it! In addition, peanut sauce is also commonly eaten here. Sometimes it's eaten with fruit, while other times, it's eaten with meat.
