In Bolivia, there are 36 recognized nations with almost as many languages. In the early 2000s, the country was renamed from the Republic of Bolivia to the Plurinational State of Bolivia. This was done in an effort to recognize the diversity in Bolivia. Some nations have a lot more people than others. For instance, there are two million people who identify as Aymara in Bolivia, while there are 180,000 people who identify as Chiquitano.
There are big differences between these groups of people. People who identify as Aymara very often speak the language Aymara, women often wear long skirts called polleras and two braids, and the home region is in the Andes. In comparison, people who identify as Chiquitano may also speak the language Chiquitano, but that is being lost, so a lot of people who are Chiquitano speak just Spanish. There is no typical clothing of Chiquitanos, but their home region is in the Amazon region. This regional difference is significant. In the Andean region, the main foods are potatoes and corn. In the Amazon region, the main foods are yucca and varieties of fruit. The two groups of people face different problems and different daily lives.
