Traveler Bio

Hallo (Hello)! My name is Rupsa “Roop-sha” Jana and I received the U.S. Fulbright research grant this year to study nanomedicine to design medicines that can treat glioblastoma (a type of brain cancer) in Germany.  Nanomedicine is a new, exciting field of science that uses everyday materials found in nature (i.e., chemicals, plastics, sometimes even plants!) at the scale of tiny cells to create medicines that can treat various diseases, notably cancer. Cancer is a disease where cells in the human body start growing the wrong way and medicines made using nanomedicine can find the bad cells and kill them as part of treatment. I am 22 years old and I grew up in a small town called Montgomery, New Jersey. In college, I studied biochemistry and did scientific research to design medicines to treat cancer, which is how I discovered the field of nanomedicine. Currently, I am living in Heidelberg, Germany and I am excited to share my study abroad journey with you all as a first-time traveler to Europe!
