These small, daily interactions have started to change my experience and have shown me first-hand what I have known all along: how important it is to put in the effort if I truly want to be a part of my community. At times this week, I was feeling tired and wanted to start speaking in English. Then I thought about everyone who doesn’t have the privilege of choosing to speak the language that’s comfortable to them. So many people do not know English but need to learn in order to do business in English. To them, learning English is a form of survival. I reminded myself of this pushed me to keep speaking in Hindi. I’m excited to learn more over the next two months. I promised myself that from here on out I’ll spend less time in my room studying and more time outside speaking Hindi!
