Traveler Bio

Hello! My name is Sajida Ahmed, and I was born and raised in New York City. My family is originally from a town in northeastern Bangladesh, where ponds, fruit trees and green fields blend beautifully. Although I have only traveled to Bangladesh a few times, I have vivid recollections of spending time with extended family and learning about the depth of our linguistic, culinary and communal traditions. Growing up, my friends and I have always enjoyed sharing parts of our culture with one another because it cultivated a vibrant ecosystem for learning, mutual understanding and ultimately stronger relationships.

Over the last few months, I had the unique opportunity to travel and learn more about another culture through the Fulbright Program, and I’m thrilled to share bits of this experience with you all. I will be reflecting on some of my most cherished memories from the time I spent in Amman, the capital city of Jordan. There, I primarily taught English while learning Arabic and engaging in various other cultural activities. My hope is to bring a part of Jordan to your classroom and show you how exciting it can be to meet new people, explore different customs and take away memories and friendships that stay strong beyond time and borders.
