Ciao e benvenuti! (Hello and welcome!) My name is Samar. I’m from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a city I have called home for nearly my entire life. Some of my favorite things to do in Philly are to explore new cafés and visit the Franklin Institute science museum.
I graduated from Temple University, where I majored in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. Although neuroscience was the main focus of my degree, I also loved to learn about different languages and cultures. During college, I studied abroad in Siena, Italy, where I did cancer research and learned more about how it is diagnosed and treated in Italy’s medical system.
I loved my experience abroad so much that I applied for a U.S. Fulbright Graduate Study Grant to complete my master’s degree in Italy. This fall, I will move to Milan to study Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine and conduct research on neurodegeneration. My research will focus on Rett syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects brain development. I’m excited to share my experiences as a student researcher in Italy, and I can’t wait to hear your questions along the way!
