Getting Around Italy

That’s where street names, numbers, and addresses help. Just like in the U.S., every street in Italy has a name. (Can you think of a street you know back home?)

Once I knew the address of where I needed to go, my phone could look up directions. Google Maps helped me a lot—it told me which bus to take, where to get off, and even what time I needed to leave.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Walking is a big part of Italian culture. In many cities, it’s actually easier to walk or take the bus than to drive a car.

Why? Great question.

  • Cars are expensive to buy.
  • Parking is hard to find in busy cities.
  • Insurance costs money too.

What is insurance? Imagine you borrow a friend’s toy and accidentally break it. Insurance is like a helper that pays to fix or replace the toy. Car insurance works the same way.

Because of all these costs, many people choose to buy a cheap bus ticket instead of owning a car. Public transportation makes it easy to travel anywhere in town.
