Parque Duarte (Duarte Park) is named after Juan Pablo Duarte who was a Dominican writer, activist, poet, politician and one of the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic. Considering that he is one of the founding fathers, he is very famous and respected within the country. There is not only a park named after him, but there is also an avenue, a highway and a holiday which is in celebration of him.
