Hi! My name is Sarah. I am from Los Angeles, California. I grew up in a part of the city called the Valley. It’s big and very hot in the summer! My favorite thing to do in Los Angeles is walk on the beach with my mom. I love to feel the sand and hear the waves. I also like reading books, writing stories, hiking in nature, and eating desserts with my friends.
I studied history at Rice University in Houston, Texas. I chose to major in history because, to me, learning about the past is like time traveling. You get to imagine what it would be like to live a very different life in a very different place.
Right now, I live in Peru as a volunteer for the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps is a a part of the United States government. It has three goals: The first goal is to help people in other countries meet their needs. The second goal is to help the host countries better understand people from the United States. The third goal is to help the United States better understand people in other countries.
I’m living in a tiny, beautiful town way high up in the mountains. It’s so high up that it never gets above 60 degrees here! I will live here for two years. My job is to help kids and teenagers learn new skills and create healthy habits. Right now, I’m working at a high school teaching things like self-esteem and leadership. We learn, play games, and have fun together!
I decided to be a volunteer because I wanted to learn more about the world and help kids reach their goals. I chose to come to Peru because I wanted to learn Spanish and I love the nature here. I think Peru is a very special place and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
