Students have the same kinds of chores at home as many students in the U.S. have: washing the dishes, cleaning their room and helping with cleaning the house. Some of them will have some garden work to do as well, while others will clean the car or go grocery shopping.
Many of the students have parents who commute to Oviedo for their jobs. Some parents are nurses, accountants, or local police officers (also known as Guardia), and some even have teachers as parents. However, the teachers are not guaranteed their teaching positions in the same school every year unless they pass a hard test that allows them to stay at one location. Most of the time they move from school to school in the region.
School starts at 8:30 a.m. every day, with a 40- 45-minute break (recreo) for a snack and some time to talk with friends. All students go home at 2:25 p.m. for lunch, and that's the end of their school day.
Some of the students who live in Grado walk to school with friends who live nearby. In the mornings, it is common to see a long line of students as they make their way to the school. Other students who live further outside of Grado will either take the bus to school or will have their parents drive them.
