What chores do you have at home?:

Students have the same kinds of chores at home as many students in the U.S. have: washing the dishes, cleaning their room and helping with cleaning the house. Some of them will have some garden work to do as well, while others will clean the car or go grocery shopping.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Many of the students have parents who commute to Oviedo for their jobs. Some parents are nurses, accountants, or local police officers (also known as Guardia), and some even have teachers as parents. However, the teachers are not guaranteed their teaching positions in the same school every year unless they pass a hard test that allows them to stay at one location. Most of the time they move from school to school in the region.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 8:30 a.m. every day, with a 40- 45-minute break (recreo) for a snack and some time to talk with friends. All students go home at 2:25 p.m. for lunch, and that's the end of their school day.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Some of the students who live in Grado walk to school with friends who live nearby. In the mornings, it is common to see a long line of students as they make their way to the school. Other students who live further outside of Grado will either take the bus to school or will have their parents drive them.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

The students will eat lunch at home, as it is their largest meal of the day. After-school clubs and programs do not exist here, and students find it very strange that U.S.
