Green Wonderland

From what I can see, the main tourism that comes to this area is that of Southern Spaniards who come to the north to avoid the stifling heat and the other people who come here to help with the teaching of English.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

Rain is the number one reason that people are able to live in this area. The rain creates the grass that the cows and goats eat, and then, in turn, helps produce the famous cheese and milk that come out of the area. The rain helps sustain the beautiful and lush forests that surround the mountains and urbanized cities. Lastly, the rain helps the farmers of the this region produce the products that they then go on to sell at the local markets in both the larger cities and the village markets. Without the rain, none of this would exist and make Asturias a place that is deserving of the title, "Paraíso Natural"--Natural Paradise.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

The biggest challenge that faces the people in Asturias is that of climate change. The whole ecosystem depends upon the rain, and if there are even a few weeks that are dry, it heavily impacts the environment. As many families here own family farms and are heavily dependent on the production that comes out of this year's rainfall, it can be hard when it's a dry year and there isn't much to sell or the products are not at their best at the markets.
