The Story of the Castle

Now, the city celebrates Friedrich and Lisolette and the remembers the castle's destruction in a yearly display of fireworks. This weekend, I climbed the hill on the other side of the river (along with with many people in the city) to get a good view of the castle. Once the sun set, the castle was lit with red lights, and it looked as if it was burning those hundreds of years ago. The fireworks started and everyone clapped and cheered. They were colorful and brilliant. I loved how everyone in Heidelberg came together on this night to appreciate the castle.

Millions of people from around the world visit Heidelberg and its romantic, ruined castle every year. And now you know the story behind it, too!
