The title of my article is one of several ways to say goodbye in Irish. Slán - by itself - is a very simple way to say goodbye. There are different versions of goodbye depending on whether the person who is leaving is saying it and if it is to one or more people. The phrase I put is for saying goodbye from the person leaving to a group of people who are staying.
I hope you are enjoying my journey. It is always worthwhile to read stories from the past and consider how those events have shaped our lives today. On my father's side, my great-great-grandmother and my great-grandmother both emigrated to the U.S. as young women (18 and 21, respectively). It is interesting to think that I may be retracing their steps backward as I made my journey to Ireland at 22.
I have now been living in Ireland for over eight months (which feels crazy!). Getting immersed in the culture, visiting the sites, and meeting new people has been incredible. I have learned a lot about Irish history, traditions, and life. I have made great friends and have had some really cool experiences. I am very grateful to have another three years to continue exploring this beautiful country!
I am grateful to you all, too, for welcoming me (virtually) into your classroom to chat with you. It was great to get all of your questions and have the opportunity to reflect on my experiences.
