Since Ekaterinburg was founded as a mining city, many scientific fields, like physics, chemistry and engineering have flourished here. A large factory was repurposed during World War II to build tanks, which helped the Soviet Union and other Allied countries defeat Nazi Germany. Engineers work on a variety of projects -- from designing bridges, to building power plants, to creating self-driving cars. The Urals region is known for its strength in science and engineering -- and I see this all around me, in the stories that locals tell me about the industry history of the city, and the pride they have for what their city has accomplished!
