It is true that a 1 hour train ride once took me 2 hours and 45 minutes! A few weeks ago, Deutsche Bahn released a song that makes fun of all of the issues that people often talk about called Der Bahn Song. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5UNox0G3xY&list=RDS5UNox0G3xY&start_rad...!
Try and see if you can pick up on any German words! You can also see the interesting way that they use some English phrases and words throughout the song. I have a small phrase list below to help you out!
Der Gang ist voll = The aisle is full
Der Kaffee leer = The coffee is empty
Das Klo defekt = The toliet is defective
Kein Internet = No internet
Fahrgastrechteformular = Passenger Rights Form
Even though the train system here can be a bit difficult to navigate, I am so thankful to have such an extensive system of public transportation - and I think many Germans also are! Imagine having buses and trains that could take you every few hours to areas all over Western New York. It is certainly a bit different than having to go everywhere in your car. Even when I have to wait a few extra minutes at the train station or don't have internet, I try not to take such a useful mode of transportation for granted. This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the many jokes, memes, and songs that are created to poke fun at the many faults of Deutsche Bahn. I'll leave you with one last joke: If you ever apply for a job at Deutsche Bahn, expect them to show up thirty minutes late just to say "you are hired!"
