It is true that a 1 hour train ride once took me 2 hours and 45 minutes! A few weeks ago, Deutsche Bahn released a song that makes fun of all of the issues that people often talk about called Der Bahn Song. Try and see if you can pick up on any German words! You can also see the interesting way that they use some English phrases and words throughout the song. I have a small phrase list below to help you out!
Der Gang ist voll = The aisle is full
Der Kaffee leer = The coffee is empty
Das Klo defekt = The toliet is defective
Kein Internet = No internet
Fahrgastrechteformular = Passenger Rights Form
Even though the train system here can be a bit difficult to navigate, I am so thankful to have such an extensive system of public transportation - and I think many Germans also are! Imagine having buses and trains that could take you every few hours to areas all over Western New York. It is certainly a bit different than having to go everywhere in your car. Even when I have to wait a few extra minutes at the train station or don't have internet, I try not to take such a useful mode of transportation for granted. This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the many jokes, memes, and songs that are created to poke fun at the many faults of Deutsche Bahn. I'll leave you with one last joke: If you ever apply for a job at Deutsche Bahn, expect them to show up thirty minutes late just to say "you are hired!"
