Traveler Bio

Hi! My name is Sophia Jantomaso. What's yours? I can't wait to connect with you and share about my journey in Argentina. I live in a town in Argentina called Oberá. It is the name of a South American Indian chieftain who lived in this region a long time ago, and the name means "bright" or "shining." My town has lots of different kinds of people. The Indian tribe, who are the original people who lived here, is called the Guaraní.

Because my town is in the jungle region, it rains often. The seasons are the opposite of the seasons in the United States. July is their coldest month; January is their hottest. It is very humid. During the most humid days, water droplets bead up along my floors and walls. Huge storms come through the region often. Sometimes the lightning is so strong it makes the sky purple, and the thunder makes me jump.

My job is assisting English professors. I help teach students who are studying to become English teachers. I help them practice their pronunciation, learn new vocabulary, and discuss the best ways to be a teacher. I love my work! I have lots of friends at work, and I often go to birthday parties, dinners, or community events with my professor and student friends. During our journey together through this beautiful place of Oberá, Argentina, I want to hear about your experiences with other countries, languages, or cultures.
