To travel from Chetumal to Palenque you need to go on an eight hour journey by bus through the night. Luckily we brought snacks and a couple sweaters to make the 300 mile journey go by fast!
Let’s really go for this, place by place, shall we? We started in México City —(830 mi)—> Chetumal —(240)—> Mérida —(75)—> Chichén Itzá —(45)—> Izamal—(25)—> Bacalar —(301)—> Palenque. 1,516 miles so far… and many more to come!
This week I got around by taking a big tour-style bus to Palenque, smaller vans called combis around the city, and I rode down from the mountains on the back of a friend’s pick-up truck. My favorite and most trustworthy mode of transportation is always walking, even though there is no built in air-conditioning.
My favorite spot in Palenque was a quiet little corner at the waterfalls of Misol Há. These waterfalls were different from the others in Palenque because they were high and steep, which means the water fell straight down about 100 feet rather than flowing down in waves like a staircase.
