Interview with Welsh Grade School

Many of the same chores you might expect in a typical US household. 

What jobs do your parents have?:

School teacher, nurse, general practitioner, sales specialist, lawyer, and finance.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

9:00am to 3:00pm. 

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Living within the city allows them to bike to school, especially since a lot of the schools are smaller and set for a specific region of the city. Those without a bike often walk in packs or take the local public transport, which could be a bus or even Transport for Wales, the train that works within the local area. Schools don't provide buses or transportation the way they do in the US and so my students were fascinated about the legend of the yellow schoolbus! 

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Depending on your age group, you may be allowed to leave school for lunch. I see many secondary school students (what we call high schoolers in the US) walk around the city to grab lunch. 

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

While English is widely spoken, children in Wales are now required to learn Welsh throughout their schooling. 

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

I've listed the names of the students I spoke with. Many are Welsh, but many are not, given that Cardiff is a city that brings families from all over Britain. Morgan, Ioian, Niamh, Carys, Isla, Ffion, Harry, Owen.
