Konnichiwa (Hello)! I'm Sophie, a graduate student learning about Japanese literature. I am currently studying at the University of California, Irvine to complete a PhD degree and (hopefully!) become a professor. I grew up in central Connecticut and went to college at Princeton University in New Jersey, where I majored in East Asian Studies for my undergraduate degree. I am currently in Tokyo, Japan through a Fulbright graduate research fellowship to research and write my dissertation about Indigeneity, feminism, and environmental literature in Japan. When I'm not reading books while munching on snacks, I'm exploring new foods, neighborhoods, and museums as I research from the southernmost to the northernmost part of the Japanese archipelago. Looking forward to sharing our journeys together during the school year!
