Puli - The Hungarian Dog

Introduction:

The Puli is an ancient sheepdog from Hungary dating back to over 1,000 years ago. Pulis are particularly known for their long corded fur and most people think that they look like dreadlocks. The pulis seem much different than any dog I have seen. The dogs are said to be extremely intelligent and good at tricks.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The Pulis are usually black, white or grey. The dreadlocks on a puli are often so long that they cover the dog's face, making it seem like they cannot see. Sometimes the puli's coat can be thick and coarse, while other times the coats are very soft.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I was excited the first time that I saw a puli. They are super interesting dogs to watch and look at because of the way their corded coats look. I could definitely watch a Puli for a while. I first saw one in a park on Margarit Island in Budapest. It kind of waddled around because of how big it was. When I went to the Transylvania countryside, I saw some pulis that were herding sheep, which made me feel as it I had traveled back in time to when they were commonly used by nearly every farming family.

Where does it live?:

The pulis live on the plains of Hungary. Shepherds used to value the puli so much that they were willing to pay a year's salary for one.
