This week, when I traveled to Mantova, it was a four and a half hour train ride and about 165 miles away from Siena.
From my home in Newberg, Oregon, to Siena, Italy, is 5,717 miles and 9,200 kilometers. This is the farthest I have ever been from home.
When I am in Siena, I can walk almost everywhere! The city is small and everywhere has a sidewalk for pedestrians. This week, however, I took a train to get to Mantova! The train is the fastest way to get around Italy if you do not need to take an airplane.
The most interesting place I went this week was Mantova! I took a trip north of Siena to visit the city of Mantova, where I spent the entire weekend running around and seeing different art pieces! My favorite of them was the Palazzo Ducale (The Duchal Palace), which used to be the home of one of the women in art history I study, Isabella d'Este! Here, I got to visit her old bedroom and even see portraits of her.
