They have delicious quesadillas and burritos, as well as more "American" foods like loaded fries and hamburgers. I had a wonderful vegetarian quesadilla with mushrooms, peppers, onions, cheese, and slices of hardboiled egg, which Chileans seem to put in just about everything.

What music did I listen to this week?:

Both the metro and the city buses have many street performers. This week on my way to and from school, I heard a lot of classical violin music and some more traditional singing that reminded me of tango music in Argentina.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

My friend and I went to see an exhibit on Ancient Egypt at a cultural center near La Moneda. La Moneda is where the Chilean president, Michelle Bachelet, and her advisors work. It's kind of like the White House (although the president doesn't live there). We were surprised that there is a public place so close to the president's workplace; the center with the exhibits was built practically underneath La Moneda!

What did I read this week?:

This week I read a couple of very long articles in Spanish for my biology class about creatures called extremófilos ("extremophiles") that live in extreme environments like volcanos or glaciers or deep underwater. The word extremophile comes from extreme (obvious, I know!) and phile, which means "love" in Latin. The Spanish word extremófilo is from those same Latin roots.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

This past weekend, I learned a new card game from my host family. We played it after a family dinner, and I won almost every round.
