Guten Tag! Good day! My name is Sukainah Abid, and I'm living in Leipzig, Germany this year while I work as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant at an elementary school. I started work in the middle of September, and will continue until the end of the school year, which in Germany is usually between the end of June and the middle of July. While here, I'll also be taking classes at the University of Leipzig.
This isn't my first time in Germany, I actually the summer of 2022 here studying abroad at Philips University in Marburg. I knew that I wanted to come back, and I was lucky enough to be accepted into the Fulbright Program, which is a cultural exchange program that send Americans to other countries and vice versa in order to promote cultural exchange.
While I'm here, my main focuses will of course be work and school, but that's not all I plan to get up to! I want to improve my German language skills, learn more about the culture and how to integrate, try lots of German food and drinks, and also travel to other parts of the country and even other parts of Europe. Living abroad to me is about learning and adapting so that I can better fit in here, while also teaching people here about American culture and the English language.
I'm so excited to see what this year holds, and I can't wait to take you with me for part of it!
