Traveler Bio

¡Hola! Kaixo! (Hi!) My name is Sydney. I am 22 years old and I am from State College, Pennsylvania. I have also lived in California, Illinois, and the Czech Republic, which gave me a love for new places and cultures. I am a Penn State fan, and I enjoy tailgating in the fall, skiing in the winter, and biking in the mountains. I went to college in Indiana, where I made great friends and found my passion for teaching. I earned my degree in Spanish Language Education with an ENL license and a minor in Education Policy, and now I am a certified K-12 Spanish and ENL teacher in Indiana.

My journey abroad takes place in La Rioja, Spain. La Rioja is one of the 17 autonomous communities in Spain and is famous for its high-quality wines. I live in the biggest city, Logroño. Life here is full of traditions. In the evenings, people enjoy pinchos on Calle Laurel in the Casco Antiguo.

I am here as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. Each day, I commute about 30 minutes from Logroño to a small town called Nájera, where I teach English to students aged three to fifteen. Along with English, I share my experiences and American culture with them. I am excited to share my experiences with your class and learn about all of your stories as we explore our cultures together!
