Japanese is the main language. You can hear it everywhere you go, even in non-Japanese restaurants. Japan is located near several Asian countries like China, Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea. Because of that, many people come here for vacation, study abroad, and even to start a life here. Depending on where you go, you may hear Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, or Thai!
The main form of currency used in Japan is called yen. It's similar to our dollar except to buy certain snacks, groceries, and products, we require a lot more yen than usual! About 1 dollar equals ~150 yen. So, how much yen would a chocolate bar be if it cost 3 dollars? It'd be around ~450 yen. Don't worry, for Japanese people, it's not like they're paying 450 dollars for a chocolate bar. Think of it similar to cents, 450 yen would be like 450 cents.
A bottle of water can be as cheap as ~100 yen. Found in vending machines that are literally almost everywhere in Japan, that's less than 1 dollar for a bottle of water. I don't know about you, but when I buy just a bottle of water in America, it can go for 3 dollars in gas stations.
