Olá! Hello! My name is Tate Sheppard, and I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota where I grew up in the green suburbs and later went to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. In college I studied theatre, Spanish and Portuguese. I also studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I learned about Argentine cinema, made new friends in the big city and got to improve my Spanish. After this journey, I knew I wanted to spend time in Brazil to improve my Portuguese speaking skills.
About that time, I learned about a very unique law in the city of São Paulo, Brazil that is used to fund theatre. I developed an independent research proposal to study this law and received a Fulbright U.S. Research Grant to come to São Paulo to do this research for nine months. I am so excited to show you all the unique ways the biggest city in South America celebrates its blended cultures and different ways of life! Let's explore together!
