Denmark is a very small country. You could fit almost five Denmarks into the state of New York. There are more people in New York City than in the entire country of Denmark!

When I found out I would be moving to Denmark, I was so excited! But at the same time, I felt nervous, too. Moving to a new place is always both a little exciting and a little scary. When I moved to Ecuador or Costa Rica, I was much more nervous because I always had to speak Spanish. Before I came to Denmark, I thought it might be easier to live here because almost everyone in Denmark speaks English. In a lot of ways, it is much easier. Getting around is simple and getting help in stores or restaurants is very easy!

However, even though parts of my life in Denmark are easier because there is not very much of a language barrier, I still have to actively work to be a part of my community. A very important part of Danish culture is joining clubs to meet new people and make friends, so I have joined a running club as well as a group that does trivia every Monday night. We are not very good at trivia, but once we won third place!

Danish people (Danes) usually make friends with their classmates when they are younger and then remain friends with those same people for the rest of their lives.
