There are also beautiful gardens and a Japanese garden with a pond and turtles. My favorite part, though, are the medieval ruins, which is no surprise as I am an archaeologist. The walls of a Dominican convent and a church are still standing, where Princess Margaret of Hungary lived as a nun in the 1200s.
It’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of a big capital city when you’re on the island. You can hear the water of the Danube on both sides, watch ducks swimming in the ponds, and just enjoy how peaceful it is. It’s definitely one of my favorite spots in Budapest so far.
We just had time change here which means it gets dark really early now. When I leave the lab, it already feels like nighttime. The colder weather has started to settle in too, and the air has that crisp fall feeling. I thought that it would already be colder here, but for the most part it is still really mild weather.
