Traveler Bio

Hi there! My name is Tom, and I'm super excited to have the opportunity to share about my experiences as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Peru! I am 25 years old, and I grew up in a small town called Bondsville, Massachusetts with my parents, my two older sisters, and my older brother. In my free time, I play the violin and go on long hikes in the beautiful mountains around my home in Peru.

Growing up, I loved solving problems and being outdoors, so I decided to study environmental engineering in college. Environmental engineers work to make sure the water you drink at school or at home is safe and won't make you sick. During college, I had the opportunity to work in Kenya, rural Alaska, and New England, where I worked with lots of other people on projects related to drinking water quality. This is where I really fell in love with traveling and working together as a team! After college, I decided to join the Peace Corps as a way to use my skills and interests in environmental engineering to help others around the world gain access to safe, reliable drinking water.

As a Peace Corps Volunteer, I work in schools and with leaders in my community to make sure people stay healthy when using the water that gets piped to their homes. I also do lots of visits to homes in my community to make sure people store, consume, and get rid of water in healthy and sustainable ways. My engineering skills come in handy as we work together toward a safe and healthy future!

I am very excited to share my journey with you. ¡Nos vemos pronto! See you soon!
