Ready to Travel Back in Time?

I got my teaching license and taught 6th grade in South Bend, Indiana, before moving to Chicago with my family and joining Reach the World. I live in Chicago now with my wife, two sons, and our two cats (Scout and Teddy).

Enough about me… let’s talk about the adventure we’re about to have together! On Saturday, October 19th, I will fly from my home in Chicago to the capital on Greece: Athens. This 11-hour, 5,480-mile flight crosses eight time zones, so when I land in Athens, I will be eight hours ahead of Chicago. As our journey progresses and we get to connect through live video calls, don't be surprised if the sun is setting in the background even though it's the middle of the school day for you!

In Athens, I plan to use the subway system and do a lot of walking in order to investigate some of the city's best sites for you. Some of the temples, plazas and ampitheaters we'll experience have been in use for thousands of years... remember that the United States is less than 250 years old. This is why I say we'll be traveling back in time--waaaaaay back in time.

On Tuesday, October 22nd, I'll travel to Pireaus--the port city southwest of Athen--and board the beautiful ship Le Bougainville to begin seven days of exploring the Aegean Sea. We are going to stop at six different UNESCO World Heritage sites, each with its own rich history of architecture, mythology, food, music, art, and natural beauty. If you like the Percy Jackson series, I'll be able to show you the exact spot where Artemis and Apollo are said to have been born! As we cruise through one of the most history-rich regions of the world, you can travel by my side and we'll experience Greece and Turkey together.
