Most weeks (like this week), I hang around Kigali. However, because Rwanda is relatively small, it only takes about three to four hours to reach any one of its borders from Kigali. Last month, I went up to Musanze in the north to see the monkeys.
From my home in Farmington, Maine, to Kigali, Rwanda, it was 6,810 miles.
I walk to school every morning since it’s 10 minutes from my house. Otherwise, I take motos (motorcycle taxis).
The American Center! Did you know that, throughout the world, the U.S. has centers for people in other countries to learn about American culture? These centers host all kinds of programming, from educational trainings (like the professional development course I teach) to cultural events (like last week's movie for Martin Luther King, Jr., Day).
Next month, I'll have my first American visitor to Rwanda--an old friend from college! It'll be a big trip for him because the flight from Boston is 26 hours! I'm planning to take him on a safari to Akagera National Park to see "the big five" animals: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.
