Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I didn’t travel very far at all. I just stayed in my town! The farthest I went was on a couple of hikes into the campo (countryside). I’m getting ready to go on a trip next week, so I spent more time preparing for that.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have tried to travel as much as possible during my time in Colombia! Most of my time has been within Colombia, since there is so much to see here! For example, I have gone to Carnaval in Barranquilla, Santa Marta, which is on the coast, the Coffee Triangle, and Medellín, a big city in the Andean region. I also often go to Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. During my “summer” vacation from school, which began around Thanksgiving and ends at the end of January, I travelled to San Andres, an island in the Caribbean that is part of Colombia, and to Mexico City during Christmas, where I met up with my family. My visit to Mexico was my only trip outside of Colombia so far.

How did I get around this week?:

This week, I just walked everywhere. I can access everywhere I typically need to go by foot: grocery stores, cafes and my school. When I need to go into the campo, I typically have to arrange a ride with someone. The roads into the campo are typically unpaved, so they can become muddy when it rains.
