We made a trip to Dedza, about 1.5 hours south. Back in November, I placed an order there for custom dish sets for my family and in laws. They make beautiful pottery and the studio is a great stop for lunch. There is also a five hour hike up Dedza mountain that offers views into Mozambique. You have to be careful when driving because there are many police and immigration checkpoints where they check for proper visas and permits.
We are planning a short weekend trip to Liwonde National Park for a safari. I am really hoping to see some cheetahs as I have yet to see one! Safari lodges in this area are very affordable. Some include multiple game drives, lodging, and all meals for around $250 USD for a full weekend.
