Spending time in the Atacama Desert this week was a real treat. I have always wanted to visit this part of South America, and I wasn’t disappointed. The landscape was so different than anything I have ever seen before. Getting to see multicolored lagoons filled with flamingos and surrounded by volcanoes was something very special. Plus, I got to see llamas grazing in deep, jagged canyons, which were adorned with 20-foot tall cacti!
Our adventure this week, from La Paz, Bolivia to Salta, Argentina, was a bit more than we had bargained for. In the end, it would have been much easier, and probably cheaper, to fly. At the same time, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. We will never forget the amazing landscape we encountered, nor the kind and genuine people we met along the way. As the saying goes, when traveling, it truly is the journey—not the destination—that counts.
