I got to attend a retirement party for a nurse at Peace Corps. She has worked there for 36 years! Imagine working for one organization for that long. She helped keep over 900 volunteers like me healthy and safe while serving in Belize. It was a great celebration.
This week, I read a book called The Call of the Wild by Jack London. It was about a big dog who was taken to Alaska to become a sled dog and eventually leader of his pack. I recently saw the movie, so I wanted to read the book as well. My job here comes with a lot of down time, so reading books has been a great way to make sure I do not get bored.
In some towns across Belize, the government has created libraries that have many types of books (and some have computers). This and donations are the main ways that people have access to books.
I usually play cards with my host brother and friends when I have some free time. However, my kids at school are currently practicing for a volleyball tournament, so we have been playing a lot of volleyball at the school.

Our preschool children will get to take part in special activities throughout the month that encourage them to dream big and live fulfilled lives. This morning, we decorated a pickup truck and were planning to have a parade, but unfortunately it was rained out.
