Even though Samoa is already naturally very hot and humid, anthropologically-influenced effects of climate change are increasing temperatures in Samoa at very fast and unnatural rates. Heat and humidity have noticeably increased within the past ten to 15 years in Samoa, causing electrical failures and other inconveniences. Cyclone damage and increased flooding also cause extreme infrastructure damage and humanitarian crises as people are injured or lose their homes during such events.
Many people rebuild their homes after a major storm or relocate to areas away from the coast to avoid flood complications or future home damage. Infrastructure improvements such as flood walls and elevated roads funded by foreign partners like China, New Zealand and Australia have also been implemented, which helps combat the detrimental effects of climate change on this Pacific nation. However, the goal is for even more projects to be put into effect, like incorporating new sustainable urban designs in the making of modern Samoan homes.
