It took me around 10 seconds of chewing for each piece because of how chewy and rubbery the octopus felt. I also dipped it in sesame oil and soy sauce which gave the octopus some flavor. After I ate my first piece, I felt comfortable eating san-nakji and continued eating it with my friends.
San-nakji is prepared very freshly. You get to pick the octopus that you want to eat, and then the server prepares it by cutting it in the back. Then it is immediately served with seaweed and different seasonings.
Seafood is very popular in South Korea, especially near the costal areas. Because seafood is a good source of protein and energy, it has spread throughout Korea in different dishes. In Busan, the second largest city in South Korea located on the beach, seafood is famous for its delicious flavors and freshness. Even though Seoul is not a coastal city, seafood is still prevalent throughout the city.
