Since we are on the sea, the only people around are the crew members I work with. The people I work with come from many different countries. We have people that speak Norwegian, Polish, German, French, Portuguese and Tagalog. Everyone speaks English as well. English is the common language used when working at sea.
Typically, when we are on the boat, we do not need to bring money. All of our food is provided. We do, however, have a little store that is about the size of a closet that has things like candy, chips and hygiene products. This tiny, onboard store accepts U.S. dollars, British pounds and euros.
Water on the boat is free because we make our own fresh water from the sea water. Doing this allows us to cut down on the use of plastic. We all know where a lot of plastic ends up if it doesn’t get disposed of properly... in our oceans! We want to avoid that at all costs.
My favorite meals are always on Saturdays. We have pizza and chicken wings for lunch, and then steak for dinner. It's a great way to celebrate the weekend.
