Here is an incomplete list (since I am sure I am forgetting some) of all of the things I will miss:
My coworkers! Working at Universidad Nacional has taught me so much about myself as a teacher and student, all thanks to my coworkers and students.
The beautiful nature and animals, I simply cannot get enough of it!
Trying new foods! There are still so many traditional Colombian dishes I want to try. I wish I could take all the delicious food with me!
To nobody’s surprise, the music and dance here!
Grocery shopping for fresh fruits; although grocery shopping can sometimes require multiple stops at different stores, the vegetables and fruits are so fresh and delicious. There are so many fruits I have enjoyed trying here for the first time.
I am visiting Colombia under a Fulbright grant, which is something similar to a scholarship. More specifically, I am a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) scheduled to live in Colombia for 10 months under a grant sponsored by the US and Colombian government. As the end of my grant approaches, I am reflecting on all of the opportunities I had to learn about myself and US culture by exchanging them with different people in Colombia. During one of our calls, somebody asked how I could make traveling to other countries possible. The Fulbright program, along with other international education programs that offer scholarships, make it possible for people like me to travel the world and connect with cultures I otherwise would not have.
